Former Commandery of the Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem, the oldest part of which dates from the 12th century, the Castle is located in a valley classified as World Heritage by Unesco, near Brive and its airport, Sarlat, Rocamadour, the chasm of Padirac and the Lascaux caves.

Its history is closely linked to the Hospitallers of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem which later became the Sovereign Order of Malta, the capital of the Hospitallers in Périgord. It was the Viscounts of Turenne who allowed the Hospitallers of Saint John of Jerusalem to settle in thanks for the services rendered during the first crusades.

Over the centuries, the Château has become a pleasure residence inhabited by the local Lords, owners of vast areas around the château dedicated to the cultivation of vines and to breeding. One of the entrances to the interior courtyard is adorned with bunches of grapes carved in the stone marking the entrance to the castle's cellars and the stables of the time have now become a large reception room where banquets, weddings and seminars.
